DT Call for Apron Strings monthly kit club

When: Wednesday, November 19, 6pm – Friday, December 5, 2008, 7pm
Note: Every Executive Chef needs an extra hand or two in the creative process. At Apron Strings, a monthly scrapbook kit club, we’re calling all designers (aka Sous Chefs) who would like to participate in our Sous Chef spots during 2009. We are looking for Sous Chefs for our Monthly Kits. Each Monthly Kit Sous Chef will design once a quarter. The commitment is one year. If you would like to be considered for a Sous Chef spot, please provide the following, by December 5th, in an email to us at admin@apronstringsdesigns.com:

Prospective Sous Chefs need to provide answers to the following questions:

* Are you currently a member of another design team? If so, who’s?
* Are you currently active on any message boards? Where and under what ID?
* Have you been a designer before? Published?

Besides the above questions please provide the following. . .

To be considered for the Month Kit Sous Chefs spots please provide 4 projects that best represent your style. Three should be layouts (any size) with the fourth being a card, tag, altered item or other non-layout piece.

What we will require from you if selected as a Monthly Kit Sous Chef:

* Depending on the kit you receive during a design month you will be required to create at least 6 (with the Smaller kit) to 8 (with the Bigger kit) pages; with at least one 2-page layout for the Smaller kit and two 2-page layouts for the Bigger kit.

* We ask that you provide a cut list for at least one of your layouts. This means we’ll need measurements for paper cuts, included with your layouts, so that we can create instructions to go with the layout. We may assign whether the cut list be for a single or double page layout.

* We ask that you use your scraps to create cards, tags or simple, but quick, altered items.

* We ask that you use only the products that come in the kits; alphabets stickers (when not included with a kit), alphabet stamps, ink pads, diecut machines (using paper from the kits) and other distressing items are the exception.

* Please use the monthly recipe (sketch) as one of your layouts. The sketch can be altered, slightly; it doesn’t have to be exact. We like members to see how a sketch can inspire you, but it still should have some resemblance to the sketch itself.

* We ask that you provide at least two tips that you have from working with a given month’s kits. We have a fair number of members who are new, or still creating on a relatively new level, and sometimes don’t have a clue as to how to use some of the embellishments we take for granted. We’ve had emails from some who aren’t quite sure what to do with brads. Tips can be anything from common uses for items, to how to use common items in new and different ways.

* Deadlines will be the 5th of month, with good quality digital photos or high resolution .jpg scans.

* We ask that if you are on boards, blogs or groups that you help promote Apron Strings kits when appropriate; i.e., when questions come up about clubs to join or what club is featuring what lines, etc. Word of mouth advertising is the best we’ve found yet and our Sous Chefs know our kits extremely well.

* We haven’t planned out our full year for our Yahoo Group yet, but we would like to be able to get suggestions from our design team for challenges and contests and perhaps have you make an appearance or two on the board, if you aren’t currently a member.

What you’ll get in return is the kit you design with for free plus a 20% discount to shop at Apron Strings. The discount can be applied all year.

Even though our design team term is for a full year, we rotate our designers so you only design once per quarter. Also, since we offer two kits per month you will have the opportunity to design with both sizes of kits during your term.
